Listening and Speaking in one look
the lighter component, still worth doing properly
What this component actually evaluates
carries far less weight than the written papers, so treat it as a smaller, steadier task, not a paper to cram for
listening is checked through short tasks: following spoken instructions, catching key details from a passage read aloud, or a recorded talk
speaking is checked through a structured response: reading aloud, a short prepared talk, or answering questions on a given topic
fluency and clear pronunciation matter here more than vocabulary range, this component rewards being understood easily
Listening tasks, how to handle them
note key details as you listen, don't wait for the recording or reading to end before writing anything down
a first listen is for the gist, a second pass (when one is given) is for exact names, numbers and dates
an instruction-following task rewards catching the sequence, first, then, after that, in the order they're actually said
a misheard number or name is the most common slip, write down what's heard even if it seems odd, then check it fits

These notes are not a standalone PDF. CapCompass plans English chapter by chapter against your real exam dates and free hours, and when the plan reaches Listening and Speaking the sheet opens inside the study block itself — at the page covering the sub-topic that block is on, with the timer still running. Revision arrives at the moment the plan says revise, instead of having to be gone looking for.
