Rhetorical Synthesis in one look
the goal picks the answer, not the notes
What this question puts in front of you
instead of a paragraph you get a set of bulleted notes, written as if a student had taken them while researching
the stem always names a goal: the student wants to introduce, to emphasise, to compare, to explain
then it asks which choice most effectively uses relevant information from the notes to accomplish that goal
all four options are usually true to the notes. Truth is not the test here, and that is the whole difficulty
Two circles, and only one region wins
a winning choice has to be in the notes and has to serve the goal. Both, not either
a choice built on facts from the notes that answer a different goal is the commonest wrong answer in this domain
a choice that serves the goal beautifully but adds a fact no bullet contains is out, however sensible it sounds
Four ways a choice fails
invented: adds a detail, a number or a link that no bullet supports
off-goal: entirely accurate, but achieves a goal the stem did not ask for
partial: does part of the goal, then spends its second half on a fact the goal has no use for
vague: uses the right bullets but blurs the exact point the goal named, usually by dropping the numbers

These notes are not a standalone PDF. CapCompass plans SAT Reading and Writing chapter by chapter against your real exam dates and free hours, and when the plan reaches Rhetorical Synthesis the sheet opens inside the study block itself — at the page covering the sub-topic that block is on, with the timer still running. Revision arrives at the moment the plan says revise, instead of having to be gone looking for.
